3 Machine Safety Measures That Can Reduce Workplace Injuries
Friday, January 5, 2018

Workplace injuries are the most common in industries where there is extensive use of machinery and dangerous equipment. Factories and plants report the highest number of injuries which can either be minor or major ones, each year. Some of the accidents that happen while working on a machine are so dangerous that they can even cause death. It is the responsibility of an employer to ensure that their plants are fully compliant with all the prescribed measures that are intended to protect the life of the workers. Some common ways to make sure that there are minimal accidents at your plant are described below:

1. Proper Machine Guarding

Machine guarding is among the most important safety measures that need to be implemented in every industrial or manufacturing plant. It helps in protecting employees from any threat and hazard that could arise while the machines are being operated.

Most commonly, vulnerability to particles like flying chips, rotating parts and electric sparks can result in many major workplace injuries, if the workers aren’t safeguarded properly. Some of the more popular and effective machine guards include barrier guards and light curtains that prevent debris and sparks from hurting the workers respectively.

2. Wear the Required Equipment

All employers must ensure that they design worker uniforms which incorporate safety measures such as gloves, helmets and appropriate shoes. It is also the duty of an employer to make sure that their employees are following the dress code to guarantee their safety while they work on machines like a cutting plant and a dye station.

Safety gears like goggles are useful in preventing any flying particle from entering the eyes and damaging eye sight. While specially made gloves and shoes can protect from workplace injuries such as burns and even electrocution.

3. Avoid Getting In The Way Of an Operating Machine

This method of avoiding workplace injuries is all about training the workers about certain workplace operations and it is mandatory for the workers to abide by those whenever they are running a machine. All workers must be informed that while any heavy equipment is running, they must not interfere with it or disturb the person working on it.

Operating powerful machines such as steel cutting equipment require a certain focus which must be maintained throughout the process. Any distraction can lead to an adverse incident. Workers must also note to never touch or obstruct a running machine since they are operating under extreme conditions and at a high speed, therefore even standing too close to them can result in a serious harm.

The above tips can help save people from suffering serious workplace injuries and also aid in preventing any unfortunate incident.
